Day 104: Finally getting over my sickness

It has been over a week now that I've been sick. It started out with a head cold and turned into me sounding like I was dying every time I tried to talk. I lost my voice last Tuesday, and today was the first day I started sounding normal again.

I went to the doctor on Friday and he gave me--count 'em--five (5!!!) prescriptions--two pills and three nasal sprays. Let me tell you, it's not a pretty sight, but they seem to get the job done. End of story.

I started my new class last week. It's called the History of American Pop Culture. I'm super stoked and enjoying the topics that we've already covered and planning to cover this semester--including the Beatles, the history of baseball, Elvis, Madonna, the Simpsons... do you catch the idea? My research paper is going to be on John Lennon and his protests of the Vietnam War. I don't know much about the whole issue, but it sounded fun and interesting. :)

We officially got through the first week of summer. Only nine more to go! But seriously, the money is nice since we're working 40 hour weeks, and the field trips are so much fun.

That's about all for now. Ciao!

Day 100!!

Woohoo, I made it to day 100! We're (most likely) over halfway there. :)

It's also officially summertime at the youth program as well. Yesterday wasn't bad at all, but today kicked my butt! We had a field trip with the kids to Area D, which is just an open area where birthday parties and big get-togethers are held. There's a big soccer field along with a playground and pavilion. We had a BBQ for the kids as a kick-off for summer break, and man was it hot! I was sweating through my clothes. It's definitely going to be a long, but kick-ass summer. I only got to work and enjoy the last three weeks of summer last year, so this is not completely new to me. I thought I was ready, but I wasn't! :)

That's all for now. Heading out to a going-away dinner for a friend. Ciao ciao!

Day 96: Sick

Today is day two of being sick. I'm not sure what I have, nor do I really care, but I just want it gone. My head is pounding; my sinuses are about to explode; my left ear is completely blocked with who-knows-what; and my right is halfway there. In short, I'm miserable. I took a three-hour nap earlier and I'm still tired. Today, I just really wish my husband was home to take care of me.

Instead, he's here:

Come home soon...

Day 92: Poundage

I woke up this morning and had a great sight when I stepped onto the scale--I am officially 13 pounds less than I was two months ago! Woohoo! Needless to say, it was a great start to my day, even if it was a Monday. :)

Not much else has been going on here. I finished two classes last week and started a new one this week. I'm excited that I'm one more semester down until I'm finished--that means I only have four more semesters to go, including the one I'm starting now! Can you say yesssssss? Because I can! :)

The rain has continued nonstop, until today. I'd love to play softball tomorrow night, but the squadron is still TDY which almost guarantees us a loss if we do play. Bummer! Oh well. :)

Work has been crazy, since we start summer this week! The kids' last day of school is Thursday, and it's a half day, so we'll be working that afternoon. Friday is a family day for the base, so we'll all have it off, and then Monday kick-starts the summer! I'm super excited for it to come--pool days, along with field trips and just being busy!

That's about all for now. Ciao!

Day 88: All Smiles

Could I really almost be at three months? Wow. Even though some weeks have just dragged on and on, overall this deployment is going by so quickly.

Last week's vacation definitely went by too fast, and this week has been so crazy for me. I've been working the mornings at work, which doesn't usually happen. With that in mind, I started a new class this week and have another one starting next week. Finals are this week as well; I took one today and have my music one tomorrow. On top of that I have two papers due Sunday, one of which is basically finished and one I haven't started. What else am I missing?

Oh, the rain... it has been raining nonstop. Even though most people (including me) usually hate the rain, I'm loving it right now. You see, rain means that softball games are postponed, and since most of the squadron is TDY right now, we're missing most of our good players. So if it doesn't rain, we are going to have to work really hard to win... I'd rather wait until the guys come back!

Speaking of the guys, I've definitely found a few great friends on the team. For a long time, I've found that I "clicked" better with guys than with girls when it comes to friendship. Guys aren't dramatic, and I like having a drama-free life. It wasn't until I got here, however, that these friendships have been misconstrued by other people to look like something they're not. I'll say it once and I'll say it a thousand times--I love my husband, and he is the only man for me, ever.

Ciao ciao! I'll try to update sooner than I have been. After this weekend, life will definitely slow down for a while, at least until summer starts next week. ;)

Day 80: I kicked this deployment's a** today!

Today was amazing, in one word. But I need many more words to describe it better!

I got my wonderful/amazing/beautiful Brad Paisley CD in the mail today. I've been waiting for a week for it to get here, since it was released last week and Wal*Mart didn't ship it until the day after it was released! I am so in love, it's ridiculous. I already have my favorites and am singing along to several that I've learned the lyrics. There are a couple that have already brought tears to my eyes, and I just sit back and think--this is country music. :)

My absolute favorite right now is "Love Her Like She's Leavin'"--a song about a man given advice on his wedding day to "love her like she's leaving / like it's going to end if you don't / love her like she's leaving / and I guarantee she won't."

My other favorite is "Toothbrush," a cute little upbeat song about the circle of life, and I couldn't help but laugh out loud while I was listening to it the first (and second and third and fourth) time. It talks about how the best things in life always start out with little things, like a toothbrush. Listen to it and you'll see what I mean. :)

I ran errands much of today, getting a ton of things done for the house that I've been putting off (in some cases, for months). I even fixed our toilet seat that's been broken since we moved in! As I had half of my head in the toilet, I was thinking "Damn you, deployment!" But it was a relatively quick 10 minute job and after washing up I was very happy.

I also got outside today and replanted some flowers and plants that I needed to. Our neighbors gave us a few tomato and watermelon plants they had leftover--whether or not they do anything, we'll see! I've never tried to grow fruit or anything, so this is all new territory for me. I did pick up a cute little begonia bush when I bought more soil today as a little gift to me. It's adorable!
I wanted some pretty flowers for my kitchen table. :)

In not-so-good news, we lost our first softball game last night. And I might have broken my thumb... it's either badly jammed or broken. I was going to catch a grounder and it short-hopped on me, and jammed my thumb and then hit my right shoulder. The shoulder's fine (used to that with catching fast-pitch), but my thumb isn't fairing so well. It's swollen and somewhat bruised. I guess time will tell, since I can't get into the clinic for a doctor's appointment to get it checked out.

By the end of next week, I'll be halfway done with this six month deployment--even though it looks like it'll be closer to seven and a half before he's done. Oh well! I've come this far, and I can do it over again.

That's all for today--I've got my BP cd on full blast on my surround sound and I'm picking up around the house. Ciao!
